Mine was easy,
I made soap. I’ve been making soap a few years and have given it as gifts
in the past so that was a no brainier.
His favor was
harder to come up with…we considered the trendy succulents because my fiancé is
a plant addict and succulents are his favorite but we thought they would be
hard to travel with for guests with many people leaving them behind or killing
them immediately. So that idea was nixed.
I was looking
online for ideas with could replicate with a DIY and found some custom spice favors on Etsy that were really cute and we were thinking about a DIY version of this but it got
pricey pretty quickly (bottles, labels, the actual spices), plus it’s not like
we felt that a seasoning mix was “us”. Or goal was under $2 per favor, ideally
around $1 to leave some wiggle room for last minute packaging costs.
However, the
seasoning led me to have an epiphany, what about tea favors? He drinks tea constantly and has an affinity for green tea with jasmine especially so we came up with
doing his favorite tea as a favor. As it’s loose leaf tea, we felt like it
would be nice to also do a steeper so that it’s really a set. Which has led us
to our DIY tea favors!
Tea steepers! |
Supplies needed:
- Loose leaf tea in your preferred flavor, we used Sunflower Jasmine Tea from Amazon which my fiancé drinks regularly as his “go-to” tea (1 lb, makes about 40-50 favors). I ordered 3 of the 1lb size for our 120 favors and we had a fair amount left over.
- Small poly bags, we used a 2” x 3” bag so that we could include several servings of tea (500 per package; and way more than we needed.)
- Organza wedding favor bags I used size 3x4 but if you don't want the handle of the steeper to stick out you probably need 5x7. Personally, I thought it was cute this way.
- Labels printed on cardstock (I used this silver metallic cardstock, which was plenty even with making some printing mistakes for my 120 favors)
To assemble these
cute favors, put 3-4 spoonfuls of tea in a poly bag. Put the poly bag and
steeper in the organza bag and close. Add a label to the bag and voila! A super
simple DIY for about $1.60 each based on the 120 favors we assembled and
requiring zero craft skills.
