After Christmas shopping - my list to stock up!

I don't like to do Black Friday shopping, there are too many crowds and I don't want to get up early just to shop. It's only a deal if you need something, otherwise, you're wasting money no matter what the price is!

Now, after Christmas shopping, that's my jam. Fewer people and better prices. But again, I will only buy something if it's something I wanted/needed anyway, even if it's 75% off. These are my favorite things to buy after the holidays!

1. Bath, body and hair care gift sets.
I seriously stock up on all kinds of shampoo, soap, and deodorant every year. I will buy several sets for me and my husband and we will use it the whole year. He really likes Swagger by Old Spice and Wal-mart/Target will have sets that include some variation of a deodorant, shampoo, body spray for about $5. Normally we'd pay $3 for just a deodorant. I usually get him 3-4 sets of various combinations, depending on how many deodorants he has left from the year before.

For me, I mostly get hair products but I have to be careful because the hair sets will contain products I don't normally use, so then it's not much of a deal. If I will use most of the items, enough that it's still cheaper than if I bought them individually, I'll buy it and gift the other items to a friend who will use it.

I will also splurge on fancy shampoo because it's almost drug store price after Christmas. I like Biolage shampoo and conditioner (normally $15+/bottle) but I only buy it on sale. I normally buy these at the Wal-mart salon, they will have a combo pack of shampoo and conditioner for about $15 and after Christmas they sell them buy one get one free - so 4 bottles for $15, less than $4 a bottle. If I buy 4 packs (4 shampoo, 4 conditioner) it lasts me almost the whole year.

2. Gift wrap & holiday decorations of course.
This one is a grandma staple, getting your gift wrap 50% or more off. I buy Christmas cards too. But I also look for things like scotch tape, which is often marked down even though it's not seasonal!

All of my Christmas decorations were also either bought on sale after the holiday for the next year or from a handmade fair (those were spendy but locally made goods are worth it to me).

3. Food and food gift sets
I'm always shocked that people will pay full price for the sausage & cheese gift sets you see. I like summer sausage as much as the next person but the packages are normally so small! I will pick up some of these at 50% off or more for us to eat or for friends coming over because we need food.

The grocery store will also have fancy hams and shrimp cocktail trays really cheap. I will buy a ham, cut it up and put smaller packs in the freezer. I will use it for ham and potato soup usually but we also might have some ham sandwiches, or ham and cheese omelets. I'll put a few shrimp rings in there too.

4. Pajamas
So many families do Christmas PJs, that after the holidays is a great time to stock up on PJ pants & sets for the whole family. I look for prints that aren't too "holiday" like maybe a red plaid, or snowflakes, they will be on sale too.

It's also a really good time to buy sweaters and other winter gear that's on sale because the season is half over and most people are broke from the holidays.

5. Calendar
This is less related to the holidays being over and more the time of year. I never buy a new calendar or day planner until the first week of January and at least 50% off.

Don't break the bank on your holiday shopping and save some money for the sales! What are your favorite items to buy during the post holiday sales?

Trader Joe's Weight Watchers shopping list

Trader Joe's has long been one of my favorite places to grocery shop! Not only do they have staples but they have amazing frozen food and lots of unique items that other stores don't carry. It's basically a hippie paradise of alternative foods. It's also amazing when you don't have lot of time to cook or meal prep because they have so many great pre-made and frozen foods. We can't meal prep all the time now can we? The really annoying thing about my TJ's store is there is NO internet or cell reception! Which means I cannot check point values while I'm in the store. Thus, it has been challenging for me to shop there and took a lot of trips to put this list together. If there are other must-haves from TJs please comment and I will update! If you're looking to save a few bucks on more basic items, check out my Aldi shopping list here . Or if you are new to WW check out my tips for getting your kitchen ready. All point values below were upda

Weight Watchers on a budget - Aldi shopping list

I joined Weight Watchers in an attempt to get healthy! While I thought I ate pretty healthy, there was a lot of sugar and carbs in my diet and not enough vegetables. To keep WW more affordable, I recommend shopping mostly at Aldi where fruit and vegetables are very affordable compared to "mainstream" stores. If you're new to Aldi, c heck out my post on shopping there as it has a few quirks. If you need help with kitchen equipment that can help you with WW, check out my post on preparing your kitchen for success . I also really like Trader Joe's for fancier items, check out my TJs shopping list for WW  before your next trip there. So what should you buy to help you on your WW journey? All point values below were updated in March 2021 on the MyWW+ program, the points listed are for the blue plan. I recommend using your scanner to double check point values. Let's start with the fun stuff, the snacks! A lot of my snacks on the program are fruits and raw v

The 3 worst pieces of real estate advice

Let me say that I am not a landlord expert but I am often shocked at the horrendous advice offered up as wisdom on landlording forums. Don't get me wrong, networking groups (online and in-person) can be a great resource as you try to learn the ropes but be wary of some advice - even if it's what you want to hear! So here it is, the worst advice you can take when starting your landlording journey and my alternative advice! Photo by  PhotoMIX Ltd.  from  Pexels 1) Get an FHA loan, even if you're not going to live in the house. When someone is trying to buy a property but doesn't have enough money to put down, "get an HA loan" is often tossed out but this kind of loan is only for owner occupied properties and when you apply for it you're agreeing to live in the house for a certain length of time. I am shocked when I see this suggested to people online, not only is it mortgage fraud but those suggesting it are pretty cavalier to suggest it
