Is Daily Burn worth it?

You can spend a lot of money on different programs to help you lose weight but which ones are worth it? One of these is workout streaming service Daily Burn. Here is my unbiased review after trying the service.

Daily Burn is an exercise streaming service where you get access to a new workout every day, or you can also do it live at 9 am. The library has thousands of on-demand workouts and there is always something new to try, since something is added daily.

I tried Daily Burn because I was looking for something to replace my gym membership. My favorite instructor left which led to my favorite class getting cancelled and I just didn't feel like it was worth it any more. I firmly believe a gym is worth the money if you go but without my favorite class, my motivation to go was very low and I couldn't justify the $50/month I was paying anymore as a result but this left an opening in my budget to spend up to $50/month on something else that would help support my overall healthy.

Spoiler alert: For me, I don't think Daily Burn was worth it but it might be for you.

Pros
Daily Burn can offer a lot of benefits to someone looking to get healthy. This is what I found to work in it's favor:

  1. You can workout anytime. If you have a weird schedule, this would be great for you.
  2. There are lot of options for different kinds of workouts, so you don't get bored. If you aren't feeling that day's workout, you can repeat an old favorite or choose something else from the library.
  3. Many of the workouts, notably the daily one, feature real people working out with all body types and ability levels. I found this to be very body positive and realistic. 
  4. While most of the recorded workouts are 30 minutes, as this is what is posted daily, there is a decent range of workout lengths. If you want 10 minutes there are some choices and if you want 60 minutes, well you can do two 30 minute workouts for lots of options.
  5. I wasn't able to participate in the live workout, but if you are, you can engage "socially" with others doing the workout and hosts.
  6. You don't have to leave the house. Many people are embarrassed to go to the gym and this means you don't have to.
  7. The price is much lower than most gyms, with plans ranging from $10-20/month.
If you are looking to start working out but don't like the idea of a gym, it might be worth a try.

Cons
Well, I already gave the game away by admitting that I overall didn't like it. If you want to see why, keep reading, the negatives for me were:
  1. I contacted customer service twice and received no response. From the first contact it was almost month and I heard nothing back. In fact, as of this writing I have not heard any response to either contact.
  2. The daily workouts had too much chatter. There is 15 minutes of recorded chit-chat at the beginning of the work out that I had to skip through. The ipad app had a nice "skip to workout" button but when I watched on my Amazon fire stick which is connected my TV, there was no such option.
  3. I really like dance cardio workouts and all of the dance cardio workouts I tried were really slow paced. You know where they teach you move for 20 minutes and then you dance at regular pace for 2 minutes? Yeah I'm not into that, it's not good cardio. I filtered for workouts that were faster paced and more intense and they were still this same general format. This was one of the biggest reasons I cancelled.
  4. The workouts were good but not any better than what I can get for free on YouTube. I was hoping to eliminate some of the searching I needed to do for a good workout but it really didn't.
For me to be effective a workout needs to have minimum amount of hassle. If I don't enjoy it, I won't do it and when it came down to it, I just didn't find the app very easy to use and the workouts very enjoyable.

Weight Watchers on a budget - Aldi shopping list

I joined Weight Watchers in an attempt to get healthy! While I thought I ate pretty healthy, there was a lot of sugar and carbs in my diet and not enough vegetables.
